Drunk driving arrest in Phoenix continue to be enforced – and that includes celebrities. Who is the latest star to be put behind bars as a DUI offender in Arizona? None other than Charles Barkely.
Barkley spent three days in a Maricopa County jail in early January. He pleaded guilty to drunk driving and two related misdemeanors after leaving a Scottsdale nightclub. A field sobriety test showed his blood-alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit of .08 percent in Arizona.
Did he have to pay the same fines and suffer the same treatment behind bars as the rest of us? Yes. Barkley had to pay $2,000 in fines, attend an alcohol treatment program, install an ignition interlock device on his vehicles and take a six-week leave of absence from his studio job at TNT. He did not get any special privileges, unlike what some may have thought.
Barkely was forthcoming about the issue saying the mistake "was completely my own." Sounds like Barkely. Good to see he took responsibility and was a good example to other DUI offenders.
Some people, however, aren’t guilty of DUI. The breathalyzer may be non-functioning. The officer may not ask the right questions. If you feel you have been victimized, contact our DUI law firm in Phoenix today. Our attorneys represent even the toughest cases.
