Thanksgiving Eve: Big Bar and DUI Arrest Night

Today, many old friends come home from college and those not-so-often-seen family
members will arrive in town for a long weekend. The only responsibility for most tomorrow is to eat turkey and watch football. Thanksgiving Eve is a perfect night
to go out and celebrate. 

Bar owners also
know this and are doing more and more to compete for patrons; providing drink
specials and entertainment. This reunion-type atmosphere, free flowing
alcohol, and I-don’t-have-to-work-tomorrow mind set make over indulging
very easy to do.

Local police are also aware of the festive environment that
Thanksgiving Eve creates. That is why many local police have formed coalitions
that will be on the look out for drunk drivers the night before Thanksgiving. In Atlanta and throughout Georgia, DUI checkpoints are very common.  Please be safe tonight, and keep in mind a few things you can do to avoid problems
with the police on Thanksgiving Eve.



  • Have a
    Reliable Designated Driver – Make this someone who is committed to not
    drinking any alcohol the entire night.
  • Remember
    that Georgia has a “zero tolerance” law for persons under 21 years of age that
    is different than what applies to persons over 21.
  • Follow
    the Posted Speed Limit – Stay safe by obeying all traffic signals, signs,
    and laws.
  • Do Not
    Drive Distracted – Reaching for that cigarette or sending that text while
    driving are commonly misinterpreted as weaving due to the effects of
    alcohol or drugs.
