& Beles have been defending people accused of crimes, including DUI, in and around Fremont CA
for over 30 years. As reported by The Argus, FREMONT -- Five Fremont teenagers, including one
arrested on suspicion of DUI, were injured after a car they rode in slammed into a tree over the
weekend, police said. At least one of the teens sustained major injuries.
Officers
responded at 2:44 a.m. Saturday to the intersection of Paseo Padre Parkway and Covington Drive after
witnesses reported hearing a loud crash, said police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques. The teens'
dark-colored sedan had crashed into a tree, Bosques said.
A preliminary investigation revealed
the sedan was traveling north on Paseo Padre Parkway when the driver lost control, slid into the
center median and struck a U-turn sign, Bosques said. The sedan continued to spin out of
control in the north bound lanes of Paseo Padre, hit a second street sign and then struck a
tree. Investigating officers suspected alcohol was involved in the crash, Bosques said.
A
male in the front passenger seat was taken by ambulance to a local trauma center to be treated for
major injuries that were not life threatening, Bosques said. She would not provide further details
about the injury. The four other teens in the sedan, including the 17-year-old male driver,
were taken by ambulance to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries, Bosques said.
At the
hospital, employees took blood from the 17-year-old driver and police arrested him on suspicion of
felony DUI, Bosques said. He was cited and issued a noticeto appear in court within the next 30
days. It was not known Monday if the teenage driver would be charged as an adult.
Bosques
said she did not know where the teens had been before the crash or where they were headed that
morning. None of the other teens were arrested, Bosques said, and the incident remains under
investigation. Police would not release the make and model of the sedan to protect the
identity of the juveniles.
"It's very sad that one was injured to the extent they were
injured but we are very lucky the others weren't in this circumstance," Bosques said Monday.
"This could have been much worse if they had hit another vehicle."
