Westland Criminal Laws Provide for Serious Punishment for Assault

Assault and Battery

Aggravated Assault

  • This is also a misdemeanor charge for an assault that happened without a weapon but still caused serious injuries.  Conviction carries up to one year in jail and up to $1000 in fines.

Assault with Intent to Maim

  • This is a felony where the perpetrator intends to destroy or remove a portion of a person’s face or body.  Conviction carries up to ten years in prison and up to $5,000 in fines.

Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm

  • This is a felony where the perpetrator intends to cause great bodily harm but not murder.  Conviction carries up to ten years in prison and up to $5,000 in fines.

Assault with Intent to Commit Murder

  • This is a serious felony.  Conviction may carry a life sentence.

Assault with Intent to Rob and Steal

  • This is a felony whether the perpetrator brandishes a weapon or not.  If the perpetrator is convicted without a weapon, the conviction carries up to 15 years in prison.  If the crime involves a weapon, conviction may carry a life sentence as a Westland criminal law offense.
