In New York, your driver's license can be suspended or revoked for any number of reasons, including accumulating 11 or more points as assigned by the NY DMV within an 18-month period or a conviction for a New York traffic violation:
You can challenge a pending license suspension by requesting a hearing before an administrative law judge or the DMV chief administrator. If the suspension results from an excessive number of DMV points, you may be able to enroll in driver improvement programs that can remove up to four points from your record.
The NYDMV will notify you when your suspension is complete. To restore a license, you must:
Drivers with out-of-state license suspensions must order a copy of their driving records by mail.
Completed suspensions will be noted with a "cleared on" date.
